Here

So I made it to St. Vincent, my home for the next 4 1/2 months, and surprisingly with all my luggage for once. (At least the one from the plane - one of the two luggage pieces shipped directly from Grenada didn't make it, along with of everybody else's. Naturally, it was the one with all my clothes in it…)

So far I've managed to move into my place, do some airport pickups, pick up my one shipped suitcase did arrive, get a new phone number/SIM card, go grocery shopping and get two flat tires on the same wheel. Yes, one on the regular wheel and on one the spare. Needless to say, there are a couple of really deep potholes that you can't drive over at 40kph. Or maybe it was just one. Yeah, I probably hit the same one twice. Good thing is it will probably only be $20 for new tires. Bad thing is I don't know how much the rim will cost if that was damaged. Gotta be better than the $950 a friend had to shell out for a tiny fender bender (literally some paint scraped off on her first day driving.) Our landlord was really, really nice about the flats though (since we are renting the car from him) and let us borrow his personal vehicle to get around in. So far so good…

Well it's back to the airport to pick up roommate #3…

[…] Remember that little accident (ok, so it was really two) where I popped a couple of tires and bent rims on my first night in St. Vincent? Well, after coming over and verbally harassing me, the owner demanded 1,000ECD for the damages (around $400US). Yeah, for a rim and a tire. Sensing that somebody wanted to upgrade their ride courtesy of the “rich” medical student, I politely declined, and instead offered to pay a fair replacement value of the tire/rim. This brought more expletives. I guess the guy didn’t realize that medical students aren’t the rich “cash cows” he thought they were. I will have close to $250,000 in debt plus interest before I am done, and will need 15-20 years to pay it off. I really don’t need to be buying some guy a new stereo system or whatever. We agreed to meet tomorrow at a place that sells rims to hammer out a “fair” deal. We’ll see how that goes. […]
