Stuffed Again… and Studying

So it seems like I am living it up here in Term 3… Friday night I and a couple of friends went out to the Beach House to celebrate one of them finishing 1st Term, and their impending departure off this rock. (36 days for me, not like I am counting… Update: Actually now I am. ) The food was excellent - I had a "Thai Teepee" (beef skewers covered in a spicy teriyaki and peanut sauce), Lobster Thermidor (cooked with wine and cheese), and the "Grand Etang Mud Pie" (not really 100% sure, but some sort of ice cream cake with an Oreo crust, and Nutella  ). However, unlike the previous night's dinner, I actually had to pay for this one. Unfortunately I had a few too many glasses of wine and other alcoholic beverages to fully understand the computation of the bill, so I ended up spending around $80. (Note: I really wasn't all that drunk, and I did have a designated driver lined up.) Actually, considering the prices at this restaurant, my contribution to the bill was probably correct, but since this is my site, I get to complain about it and blame my confusion on my (feigned) drunkenness, rather than my inability to do math without a calculator. :-) Note to self: Next time I go this this restaurant, get someone else to pay. Parents/sister/anyone else, you want to come and visit? :-)

Saturday morning I was awoken by a fellow RA who thought I had the "RA van," because she needed to get up to the hospital to visit a loved one who was an inpatient. I did not have the van, but we managed to find who did. I offered to drive her up to the hospital because 1) she didn't know how to get there, and 2) she did not have a valid driver's license. Just as the Carenage (port/center of town where the General Hospital is located) is coming into view, we have this conversation:

Her:
Huh, isn't that the General Hospital? I wonder why they didn't take him there?

Me:

Uh, they didn't?
(I had been working under the assumption the Grenada General was our destination.)

Her:
No, he's at St. Augustine's. I probably should have mentioned that.

Umm, yeah - considering I have been to St. Augustine's once, and that was during Hurricane Ivan aftermath, where we ended up taking lots of detours due to the fact that the roads were not cleared. I had a general idea where it was, but not really how to get there. It was ok though- we managed up making it after getting lost only once. At the hospital, I did a bit of visiting and a bit of studying for the exam coming up on Monday (the Term 3 Integrated Exam #1, covering Biostatistics, some Behavioral Science, and some Epidemiology.) I did some of this stuff in college, and it is sort of coming back to me.

Saturday night was spent reviewing Biostatistics with a study group, and then going over to a friends for Nutella-filled crepes (see a theme here?), and a movie. I can't remember the name of the movie, but it was about a cowboy-outfit wearing Egyptian mummy that sucked the souls out of elderly people living at a rest-home through their anuses. An African-American who thinks he's JFK (his skin was "dyed"), and an elderly Elvis figure out the secret of the mummy and devise a plan to put an end to the soul-sucking. Needless to say, dumb movie.

Today, I woke up relatively early and have been studying all day for tomorrow's exam. On that note, time for lunch, and then back to the books.

Wow that movie sounds horrible - what´s it called so I make sure never to see it?

So nutella has made it to Grenada huh? Then again most products are probably imported there aren´t they?

Carsten Says:

Evidently it’s called Bubba Ho-tep

Yup, nutella made it here… They have lots of American and European stuff, just everything is slightly more expensive…

Hi there, we are on our way back to Sweden, a little tired because this Midnight Sun robbbed us of sleep. It was weird to never have it dark. We decided we liked “night”. Sounds like you are not suffering in the eating category—-that’s good! We are barely surving because it is so expensive here. A beer in a restaurant or bar costs USD 9—needless to say, we did not get any!

Carsten Says:

Yeah, I am more of a night person too! :-) Why is it so expensive in Sweden? Do they have some sort of socalist “unhealthy” tax on the beer to pay for all the problems alcohol causes?
