Common Sense

[1] Standard Deviation I'm halfway through my first week of classes in Behavioral Science and Biostatistics. (Surprise, I've been going to class!) :-) Biostats is not fun - I thought was was finally done with that evil math stuff with scary equations such as these. Ok, so they are not that bad, but close!

Behavioral Science has been a lot a common sense, or "truisms" that everyone "knows." For example those that have a major negative life event, (i.e. loss of spouse, job, etc.) have poorer health. Those unlucky enough to have multiple major negative life events in a 6 month period, do even worse health-wise, even up to 2 years later. One of my favorite quotes, though (and likely the professor's too, since he repeated it so much  ):

Life is 10% the events that happen, and 90% how you interpret those events.

While seemingly obvious, there is much truth to the statement.
