Holiday Fun

Inspired by my sister's post about her dislike for holidays in Germany, I too must voice my annoyance with public holidays in Grenada. Especially for something called "Whit Monday." What is that anyways?
One of the pipes for the air-conditioning compressors/"chillers" picked today to burst, resulting in the loss of air-conditioning to the entire dorm. After fielding many maintenance work orders, I started to suspect something was wrong. A call to my fellow RA upstairs confirmed my suspicions. Luckily, she has the direct cell phone number to the company subcontracted to repair A/C's in our building. The owner of company actually showed up with some guys and repaired the broken pipe, on a holiday, no less. Definitely pleasantly surprised by that.
Now we just have to wait until the caulking/sealant/whatever they used to fix the pipe cures/dries. Of course that is never going happen with the torrential rain bursts we've been getting all day. Did I mention the rainy season has started early? (Just like last year, when we had that fun hurricane, FYI.)
Oh, which reminds me of the fun puddle on my floor that I woke up to this morning and have been battling all day. Evidently those hurricane induced cracks in my exterior wall aren't so watertight. I tried calling the maintenance dispatcher, but the entire department is off for the holiday, save 1 guy on-call for emergencies. I was able to reach him by radio, but he told me that he was a carpenter and the cracks would have to be dealt with by a mason tomorrow.
I also tried to pay my car rental bill today, but unfortunately, there wasn't enough in my wallet to cover it. The bank was closed (even non-holidays, the on-campus branch is only open 3 hours a day - talk about a cushy job), and the ATM was out of money.
Well, maybe tomorrow, I'll actually be able to get something done. Then again it is Grenada, and nothing happen fast… (Which is both good and bad.)
Update: Oh and did I mention that the construction workers building the new dorm directly across from mine weren't lucky enough to get the day off? I know this because every single hammer strike comes through my fully open window (due to lack of A/C), and resonates in my brain. (Well, actually, hair cells would be more correct, but who's counting.)

Wow! Sounds like you´re having quite some difficulties with that AC. Hope your puddle causing cracks have been repaired because that doesn´t sound too fun! What is Whit Monday anyway? Are you supposed to be really witty (haha, not like that feabile attempt though…
) is feabile spelled like that? It looks funny. Wow, I´ve been living in a foreign country too long!
Well some guy from maintainance stopped by for all of about 30 seconds to check on the cracks, and told me he would have to get someone else to look into it. More specifically a mason, since the water was coming through the wall. Just give me some caulk, and I’ll be done in about 2 seconds.
That was a really feeble attempt at humor. (And spelling too!)
I have no idea what Whit Monday is - some sort of Catholic holiday.
