Insomnia

4 AM and I was still wide awake. It's not that I wasn't tired, I just plain couldn't fall asleep last night. Could it be that they still haven't come to fix my air-conditioner? :???: The maintenance dispatcher assures me that my A/C has been checked out, and the repair men could not find anything wrong with it. They must have come during the 2 hours a day when it actually cools, and not the great majority when it is just blowing air.

Grr. Though writing this post seems to have guilted the A/C… it's currently cooling :-)

After classes today, I called up the dive shop to see what was on the plate for the weekend. Finals are coming up in a few weeks, so I likely would not get the chance to dive again for a month. Luckily for me, they had a "special" dive going out that afternoon to Northern Exposure, a dive site I had actually only been to once before (getting rare for me in Grenada). The dive was "special" because after the dive we relaxed a bit on the boat, and drank some beer before heading home.

I guess the prospect of alcoholic beverages really appealed to other scuba-diving med/vet students as well — the boat was packed with 20 of them! Luckily for me, I convinced a friend, who still needed to complete his last dive for his Open Water Diver certification, to come along. The only skill he had to complete was a navigational swim, (where I got the honor of sitting on the bottom to be a navigational point), and then it was just me, him and the divemaster exploring the reef. No scuba tour en masse for us! :-)

After the dive, I quickly showered and ran over to KFC for a quick dinner (It's been months since I've eaten it, but I just saw it in a TV show - amazing how that works.) Then it was off to the PD Lab/Alumni Hall for my turn at showing movies. (RA's show movies on Friday and Saturday nights as part of their contract.) I only started about 45 minutes late, because 1) the Housing Office gave me the wrong key so I couldn't get into the A/V room, and 2) the A/V tech didn't leave the required cables out. I searched high and low, but my room would look neat compared to the A/V room. (Anyone who lived with me could attest to how bad it must be.) Finally, I just found a bag of cables and tried them all until I found one that worked… Turnout was better than I expected it to be: about 10 kids (including screaming babies) plus their parents, and four students.

At least tomorrow will go smoother since I now have the correct keys and know where I put the correct cable. Though I will probably get to cancel it, as tomorrow is Sandblast (University-wide all-day beach party with open bar), and most people will be too intoxicated to come to the movie. (At least here is hoping!) :-)

hey sounds like you´re busy…what exactly do screaming babies get out of the movie night? have fun at the beach party!

Carsten Says:

Who knows?

And I just woke up, so I missed most of the beach party. Probably better that way… As an RA, I really can’t get too drunk, so the expensive open bar would have been pretty pointless.

Plus I need to catch up on my studying — only two weeks until finals! AHH!

sonja Says:

why´d you wake up so late?? partying too hard the night before? any interesting RA responsibilities as a result of drunkenness on campus or does that end by med school?

Carsten Says:

Nothing too interesting, but no, it doesn’t end by med school.
