The Joys of Living on an Island: Part II

Oh did I forget to mention:

My Leg

It's hard to see, but I have too many bites to count. For some reason, the mosquitoes here love to bite around the ankles. It is finally dry season though, so hopefully their population will dwindle as the amount of standing water decreases…

Mom Says:

Try repellent, it really works…I use it here in Thailand!

Carsten Says:

Thanks - but it is kinda hot to wear socks (and then they’ll just bite somewhere else) and I am not sure the cancer caused by the 25% DEET is worth it :-) But I am getting better at catching mosquitoes and crushing them in my hand :-)

sonja Says:

oh suck it up or use the DEET - we all get cancer from something anyway  just kidding, i guess that´s the ONE disadvantage of living in a warm climate…oh by the way, i´m FREEZING at the moment. It looks like you don´t scratch them open like you used to when you were little. Good boy

Duncan Says:

Come on Doc! Most insect bites—anywhere—occur around the ankles. I can sympathize with you though. It’s really bad where I come form in the Tidewater area of Virginia, and it’s one of the few things that I have not missed while living here in Germany.

You need to put a generous amount of insect repellent around the ankles and neck.

Carsten Says:

Hmm, I wonder if ankle-biting is somehow genetically encoded for mosquitoes… At home I remember a more even distribution. Only 8 more weeks until Parasitology…

And I have insect repellant and put it on occasionally… Though it’s just easier to complain on here :-)

And Son: you haven’t seen my other leg - they still itch, so I still scratch :???:
