Weekend Update

Time for the old weekend update:

Friday: Remember something about going to class… Not much else :-)

Saturday: The morning was spent diving the King Mitch and San Juan again ([1] previous dive.) On the King Mitch we saw a bunch of nurse sharks, and a reef-tip shark, as well as a large spotted manta ray, numerous large barracuda, and various other fish. I don't know what it is about this dive, but I just consume air way too fast. After only 29 min at 100-120 feet, I ended up on the boat with 300psi, but at least I had enough air for my safety stops :-) I have no clue why this happened - it's not like I haven't seen sharks, or been down that deep before… I've done both on numerous occasions - that wreck just must do it for me. :-)

We had an hour long surface interval, which provided the entertainment portion of the morning. Since the boat was full of only about 8 local med/vet students, the staff let loose with their jovially abusive conversation :-) (With the exception of occasional cruise ships, the students are the dive shop's major livelihood. Just not too many tourists yet.) Then there was a diving competition from the boat's fly bridge. All in all, not a bad way to spend a surface interval.
The second dive to the San Juan provided views of 8 nurse sharks either in the wreck, or swimming freely within a few feet of me. Other than that, not really much interesting except a school of spade fish. On this dive, as on the previous dive, I was diving on Nitrox. Even with the "Enriched Air," I came within 4 minutes of my No Decompression Limit on the 90 ft dive which followed the 120 ft dive. I don't know how the air divers stayed within their limits. They don't know either, as they weren't diving with computers (or staying within the tables…)

In the evening, around 6PM, I was tasked with moving one of the students from my dorm to the satellite campus/dorms at Grand Anse. Which wasn't really all that bad, since I was given access to the "RA van" for the entire weekend to accomplish something that took 20 minutes :-) While over at Grand Anse, one of the RA's over there was having a barbecue/cookout/party, and he invited me to stay. I was glad I did, since I had some of the best burgers and Buffalo Hot Wings on the island. I got the recipe for the wings, and I'll have to try it sometime :-) I ended up staying till around 10:30, and then I went home. I was pretty exhausted, so I ended up just checking some email and going to sleep.

Today, Sunday, is devoted to studying, which I am going off to now…
