Busy, Busy Redux

Dear Faithful Readers,

My apologies, but I just looked at the calendar in the menu bar to the left, and saw how many days it has been since I have posted. I am still alive and well, but extremely busy. My job as an RA has been particularly time consuming after the wrath of Hurricane Ivan. Requests for access to 1 of 10 storage rooms (one of which had 100's of bags in it, and I am required to stay with the person until they find their stuff, which sometimes can take hours), checking people in, and a stack of work orders an inch thick. And unfortunately, not everyone is all that considerate - knocking on my door for non-emergent issues at midnight or later. After this week though, it should be much smoother. (At least, hopefully.)

And thanks to the efforts of my mother, I was finally reunited with my luggage. I just didn't have time, a telephone that worked, or any phone numbers, so therefore it was easier to track down my bags from the states. They arrived in Grenada on Tuesday, and when I called the airline (LIAT), they said that they did not deliver the bags, and that I would have to go pick them up (despite what USAir said.) Anyways, after about 2 hours of speaking to various people, getting various approvals, I was allowed to drive one of the school's 14-passenger mini-buses (as an RA, and a University employee) to go pick up my luggage. So instead of paying 50EC (about $23) for a 5 minute taxi ride, I ended up only paying 2EC (about 80cents) for parking.

Well, here comes another storage request - I will try and update more regularly as things calm down work-wise.

You sound busy! Hopefully it will calm down after everyone gets checked in. You still have a little time to relax before classes start, or? Put a sign on your door that says you´re not there or closed for business or something after midnight, so that no one bothers you anymore:-)

Carsten Says:

Yeah, I still have almost 2 weeks before classes start… And there was a sign on my door, advising people that storage was closed and to come back tomorrow morning, but he decided to ignore it… He wanted his stuff back so he could sleep on it… He must have not considered that after 4 months in a humid climate, stuff is bound to get moldy, and he might want to wash it before he sleeps on it…

Gabi Says:

Don’t let them take advantage of you. Have your hours and stick by them- If you give a little finger, people will take the whole hand. It’s human nature.

Carsten Says:

Yup, I do… Those people that asked for access to storage at midnight, I denied, and told them to come back tomorrow during normal hours…

interesting mom - never heard that used before! (the one about the pinky and hand)
