But I Just Wanted Ice-Cream

Most likely the last EMS post for a while… Other than occasional all-calls, I may only have 1 or 2 more scheduled shifts before I go back to school (and I may have to find coverage for those, since I need to get ready.)

Last night's shift was busy so that we didn't end up eating dinner until about 11PM, but after midnight there were no calls.

  • Our first call was a 22 year old male complaining of back pain after a very minor accident. (Cracked taillight was about the extent of the damage.) The patient had been experiencing back pain prior to the accident, however, since he had been roofing all day. He adamantly refused going to the hospital, which was unusual, since he was driving on a suspended license. He signed the RMA and we left him to deal with the cops.
  • Next up was a 40 yo woman who fell about a foot getting out of her husband's pick-up truck. Not really a significant mechanism of injury, but she complained of back pain, and wished to get evaluated. On a backboard and collar, and a simple BLS transport up to the furthest hospital we go to in the northerly direction.
  • After attempting dinner once again, we get toned out for a male fallen, unconscious at one of the local c-stores/gas stations. Upon arrival, the clerk told us that he got up, got into his car, and drove off. No patient found, and we were back to the restaurant for another dinner attempt. Denied by another tone, directing us to respond to the patient's house. (The cops on scene had somehow found out where he lived.) No one home, again no patient found. Another dinner attempt, again denied by tones directing us back to the original scene of the gas station/c-store. After chasing him around the pumps a few times, the cops had finally boxed him in, and forced him to stop. Turns out he was an elderly gentleman, who had Alzheimer's, and wasn't supposed to be driving. He had fallen on the curb at the c-store, and ended up with some facial abrasions, and no other real CC. The daugter/wife arrived, refused transport to the hospital, and took him home. All this because he wanted some ice cream! (Black cherry to be exact.) :!:
