Overheard on the EMS radio tonight:
[local BLS ambulance squad] and [local Fire Department], Priority 1-Delta response to the front entrance of Hillside Mobile Home Park, for a 24-year-old male, ATV accident, object impaled in chest.
This dispatch generated the following response:
- Fire Chief
- Asst. Fire Chief
- Fire Department Rescue Truck
- Ambulance Corps Captain
- Ambulance Corps 1st Lt.
- BLS Ambulance
- ALS Flycar with Paramedics from neighboring agency
- Request for MedEvac Helicopter
Upon the first units arriving on scene, the following was transmitted over the radio:
"No object impaled in chest, it's just something in his jacket."
Gotta love trailer parks and the intelligence of the people that live there…. (Kinda like the parents who sent a letter to the ambulance squad that said that they would appreciate a quick response, and that it was ok to administer oxygen, in the case that their 2-year-old daughter stopped breathing.)

Which object were they talking about?
