Today’s Lectures

Posted By Carsten On 17th August 2004 @ 12:09 In Medical School | No Comments

So this morning we had some pretty interesting lectures…. First was Neurosci.. .which I lied, really wasn't that interesting. In physio, however, we did some more cardiac electrophysiology… which was cool, because we learned some of the ionic basis of EKG stuff, calcium channel blockers, why potassium is so important and can cause arrythimias, etc. And then we had Clinical Skills, which last term was a useless class that 90% of the class skipped. I am glad I stayed for this session though. They had the white coat speaker, who was an academic/practicing MD in tropical medicine from Canada. He did an interactive skit on the doctor/patient relationship that proved to be quite funny.

Some memorable quotes:

"The longer you are sick, the less likely it is to be a critical, life-threatening illness." - Especially appropriate for EM.

"Medical students are known to have hypertrophic anal sphincters, leading to rabbit-like droppings…"
